Do you prescribe medication?

No we do not.  A pediatrician, child and adolescent psychiatrist, developmental pediatrician, or other physician can prescribe medication.  We advise you to discuss your child’s medication needs with your child’s physician.

Dr Davenport has 20 years of experience collaborating with physicians in order to provide a complete treatment plan for children and adolescents struggling with ADD/ADHD.  The National Resource Center on AD/HD recommends a comprehensive approach to treatment called “multimodal” which includes:

  • Parent and child education about diagnosis and treatment
  • Behavior management techniques
  • Medication management
  • School programming and supports

Treatment should be tailored to the unique needs of each child and family.

What do you think about medication?

For many children with ADD/ADHD, medication helps the child get focused so he or she can develop improved skills.

Research shows that medication is an important part of a multifaceted treatment plan for many children who struggle with ADD/ADHD.  However, only you and your child’s physician can make decisions about medication for your child.
